Highlights
An essential coating reagent for stem cell culture, especially embryonic stem cells.
Gelatin is a mixture of peptides and proteins produced by partial hydrolysis of collagen extracted from animals’ skin and bones. Mouse ES cells that are grown on a layer of gelatin as an extracellular matrix (for support) require the presence of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF). Human ES/iPS cells are grown on a feeder layer of mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) and require the pretreatment of the plate with Gelatin.
